It is at the River Run in Guelph Thursday, July 10 2:00p.m. and 8:00p.m. and Friday July 11 8:00p.m. Then we move to Centre in the Square in Kitchener for shows on Thursday July 17 and Friday July 18, both at 8:00 p.m. Other great news! Janet has been cast in "The Producers" as ensemble and understudy to the lead "Ulla". Rehearsals start in September and the show opens at the Canon Theatre in November. Mattel was working on action figures for us, but they were having trouble getting the little tambourines to make any noise at all. If this is THE Thom, who actually filled in for some gigs when one of us was deathly ill a couple of years ago, perhaps we should ask them to make a Collector's Item action figure of you too, complete with pants that are too short...and only release 1,000 or so to make them extra valuable. Also, I know you do "joke songs" and I noticed when Thom was singing he had this unique sound in one song that was a bit country, maybe you could add a country song to your list. I love country but I know many don't, that's why I suggested it as a "joke" song. Thanks for coming to our performance at the Waterloo Stage Theatre. We are very happy with the sound of 5 and we're glad that so many of our audience members notice the difference. There are two country-ish songs in our repertoire. In the TV Medley, the Dukes of Hazzard theme song is given a very strong country treatment...even stronger than the original. I suspect, however, that you're talking about Thom's lead on Heartache Tonight (The Eagles). As I'm sure you'll agree, Thom does an awesome job on that lead and we'll take your suggestion to do a country tune into the rehearsal room and see what pans out! You may be referring to Popstars 2: Boy Meets Girl in which I made it to the second day of the bootcamp proceedings before getting the BOOT for my "bad attitude"... While many can appreciate and keep up with my mostly sarcastic and dry sense of humor, it appeared as though the judges in that case DID NOT. Meh. I suppose it's not such a bad thing to be recognized for that every once in a while but be it known that the Essentials are a good 20 - 25 times better than any act that those shows could spawn. There's no way that we couldn't go through some heavy changes considering the 'new blood' in the group. We're working on some newer stuff that will challenge what you all know as the Essentials with different sounds, different styles of music and some all around funkier tunes. This doesn't mean that what you have all come to know, love and respect will disappear, it just means that the group is evolving and we hope you'll all be along for the ride! Bev is right..."Unchained Melody" is one of my All-time Favorites but I would also like to suggest a couple of others... "Special Angel" and "Moments to Remember" by the Vogues. I don't know if you heard of them...they were around in the '50's/60's'about the same time as the 4 Seasons. Acually, "Moments to Remember" was the song they played over the P.A. on my last day of HighSchool after Graduation and I can still remember the tears fall as they played it that day. It may pull a few heartstrings if you have an "older" crowd in the audience and it may just do the same with some of the younger crowd, too. Anyway, those are my suggestions. Hope they help. "Jenny" would be antoher good one, or "867-5309" (same song) Since we're on the oldies topic, "The Wanderer" would be one to hear. You can also get some Beach Boys going on (In My Room, Wouldn't It Be Nice) some Beatles (Love me Do). You have probably already done it, but the "Duke of Earl" or "Sherri Baby" I can see you guys doing the White Stripes' "7 Nation Army" Any song you guys do will for sure turn out to be 10 times better than the original version, they always have! We had a great time at the show as well, all the other acts were awesome! We hope to get back to K/W for a public show sometime soon so keep checking the 'shows' page here on the site for udates.
